You can see why locals favour Perpignan’s La Galinette. Despite the Michelin star and fantastic food, this small, colourful restaurant is unpretentious and welcoming (though reservations are essential). Chef Christophe Comes has a passion for ultra-fresh regional vegetables and Mediterranean fish and seafood.
Expect treats such as scallops treated three ways – roasted, carpaccio and croustillant – chilled morels, or roasted asparagus from Provence. The keynote dish this autumn is Mediterranean daurade royale, with ravioli and cepes. La Galinette offers a more modestly priced set menu alongside a la carte options.
