Agadir with friends: wellness, surf and Moroccan beauty rituals

Between the ocean, fragrant hammams and cooking workshops, Agadir is the perfect destination for a trip with friends: surfing at sunrise, yoga by the sea and the secret of argan oil.

Agadir, a getaway to reconnect with friends

Some trips are made to discover a place, and others to share time. Agadir clearly belongs to the latter. Located on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, this bright, ocean-facing city offers the perfect setting for a getaway with friends: wide beaches, relaxed hotels, accessible Moroccan culture and a strong wellness tradition.

Unlike other more intense Moroccan cities, Agadir has a calm rhythm that invites you to slow down. Here, days begin with walks by the sea, continue with surf or yoga sessions, and end with long hammam rituals or dinners facing the ocean.

But the trip can go beyond relaxation. Around the city, you’ll find women’s cooperatives producing the famous argan oil, cooking workshops to learn traditional recipes, and small yoga studios overlooking the Atlantic.

In three or four days, Agadir becomes the ideal place to combine wellness, cultural experiences and shared moments.

A traditional hammam to start the trip

A trip with friends in Morocco often begins with a very local experience: the traditional hammam.

More than a spa, the hammam is a social ritual that is part of everyday Moroccan life. The process starts in a hot steam room that prepares the skin for treatment. Then comes the famous black olive soap and exfoliation with a kessa glove, leaving the skin incredibly soft.

One of the most recommended places in Agadir is Argan Palace Spa Agadir, an elegant space where private sessions can be booked for groups or friends. The ritual usually ends with a relaxing massage using argan oil, the region’s star ingredient.

Leaving the hammam with perfumed skin and a light body is the best way to begin the trip.

The secret of argan oil

The Agadir region is home to argan oil, one of Morocco’s most iconic products. Used both in cosmetics and gastronomy, this oil is obtained from the fruit of the argan tree, which grows almost exclusively in the southwest of the country.

To discover its story, it’s worth visiting a women’s argan cooperative, where local women produce the oil using traditional methods. One of the most interesting near Agadir is Targanine Argan Cooperative. During the visit, you can observe the entire process, from manually cracking the nuts to extracting the oil. Many cooperatives also offer workshops to try cosmetic products or learn how to prepare the famous amlou, a Moroccan spread made with argan oil, honey and almonds.

Beyond being a cultural experience, these cooperatives represent an important social project: they allow many rural women to work independently and preserve an ancestral tradition.

Yoga by the Atlantic Ocean

Agadir is also one of Morocco’s favorite wellness destinations. Its mild climate year-round and large beach make it an ideal place to practice yoga by the sea.

One of the most well-known studios is Zen Surf Morocco,  located a few kilometers north of Agadir in the small surf village of Taghazout. Here, retreats combine yoga and surf. Practicing yoga with the sound of the ocean in the background is a simple yet special experience, especially when shared with friends.

Surf for beginners in Taghazout

Less than half an hour from Agadir lies Taghazout, a former fishing village turned into one of the country’s most popular surf destinations. Even if you’ve never tried surfing, this is the perfect place to start. Gentle waves and long beaches make learning relatively easy.

Schools like Taghazout Surfers organize beginner classes that include a board, wetsuit and instructor guidance. Sessions usually last around two hours and end with a shared sense of achievement that always brings laughter and stories. After class, the best plan is to stay for lunch in one of the small seaside cafés and watch more experienced surfers glide over the waves.

Learning to cook Moroccan cuisine

Another perfect experience for a trip with friends is a Moroccan cooking workshop.

In Agadir, you’ll find several cooking schools offering classes to learn how to prepare traditional dishes such as tajine, couscous or Moroccan salads. The experience usually begins with a visit to the local market to select fresh ingredients: spices, vegetables, herbs and argan oil. Then, in the kitchen, participants learn to combine flavors and traditional techniques.

The most anticipated moment comes at the end, when everyone sits around the table to share the meal they have prepared together.

Relaxed afternoons by the sea

After a day full of activities, Agadir invites you to slow down. Its seafront promenade, stretching for several kilometers, is perfect for an evening walk as the sun sets over the Atlantic.

One of the nicest places to end the day is Pure Passion, located in the marina. Its seaside terrace is ideal for a relaxed dinner with friends, offering dishes that blend Mediterranean and Moroccan cuisine. Another more laid-back option is simply sitting on the beach with a mint tea while the sky changes color.

A trip to share

Agadir has something that works especially well for trips with friends: everything invites you to share experiences. From collective laughter after falling off a surfboard to the quiet calm of a perfumed hammam.

Sometimes, the best memory of a trip is not just the place you visit, but the people you share it with. And Agadir, with its mix of ocean, culture and wellness, is the perfect setting.
