No matter if you are looking for a place to enjoy a spectacular sunset, or a café to relax and appreciate the passing of time, or perhaps a bar for a buzzling night out, the Sunset Café is the ideal place to visit. As always best enjoyed in the company of good friends sucking in the unique atmosphere. Located in the Marina de Pisa, this snug venue opens its doors in the evening until

the crack of dawn, and is really worth visiting. Take a seat on one of the comfortable cushions next to the sea, breath the salty air and let your self be captivated by the delightful light of the candles. People of all ages come here to enjoy the attractive ambience, making it the perfect spot to make new friends.

It’s actually called La Moderna, but everybody in Florence calls this restaurant I Briganti, the name of the family that has been running this place for over 40 years, serving pastas, pizzas, steaks, and other traditional dishes to generations of Florentines, including some celebrities. This classic trattatoria-pizzeria is still

going strong, so be ready to wait if you didn’t book a table. Everybody is treated to quick service, great food and cheap prices. It remains open until 2am so you’ll find everybody here from pensioners to night owls. Out of the city centre but definitely worth the walk.

Right in the city centre, lined by the most beautiful palazzi in Florence, recently pedestranised Via de’ Tornabuoni is Florence’s own fashion street, and a must-see in its own right. Here you will find many high-end fashion brands and other luxury shops, but you don’t need a spending spree in order to enjoy a

walk through this wonderful street, leading from a small square up to Santa Trinita bridge. The street is at its best during the fashion week at palazzo Pitti, with parties at every shop and the street flooded with people.

Biblioteca delle Oblate’s cultural centre is housed in a palazzo right in the centre of Florence and has a rich calendar of events. The library is free and includes foreign language books, dvds and a children’s section. But the real attraction here is the bar on the top floor: two covered terraces with great views on the cupola of the

Duomo. During the day you’ll find university students having a panino, while after dinner there is often live music. Come here for a tea in the morning or an aperitivo, find a book about Florence and enjoy a priceless experience.

Do you feel you could do with some green open space amid Florence’s palazzi and narrow lanes? Head for Le Cascine, a large park right in the centre of the city along the Arno river. Great for a rest in the shade or a picnic, but worth exploring too: this large historic park is dotted with playgrounds, has a swimming

pool at Le Pavoniere that doubles as a cocktail bar after dark, an amphiteatre with a rich concert programme in the summer, and even a hyppodrome. On Tuesday, don’t forget to check out the vast sprawling market.
