Cala Blanca, lying just a few kilometres from Ciutadella, is ideal for a day on the beach with your family. Read the article to find out about this beach’s key to success.
Why choose Cala Blanca during your stay in Menorca?
Cala Blanca, on the west coast of the Island of Menorca, is just a few kilometres away from the former capital, Ciutadella, and is a convenient and easily accessible destination, whether you’re staying in the city or whether you decide to stay in the vicinity of Cala Blanca itself.

At Cala Blanca, you can also find all the facilities you need for spending a day on the beach as a family.
I should stress, however, that it’s a fairly small beach and can become quite crowded during the summer months. That said, the turquoise sea at Cala Blanca, as well as the amazing sunsets that you can watch from its seafront, certainly make it worth a visit.
What to do in Cala Blanca, Menorca: a beach and much more
Cala Blanca is one of Menorca’s beaches equipped with facilities, where you can find activities, amenities, bars and restaurants to suit all ages, tastes and requirements, but that’s not all! Here’s some more info:
Activities and amenities
If you want to spend a day relaxing, Cala Blanca beach will meet all your needs: surrounded by a wonderful pine forest, with whiter than white sand and turquoise waters, this beach is ideal for the whole family. Here, you can also hire umbrellas and sunbeds, to enjoy your day in even more comfort.

If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a bit of adventure, at Cala Blanca you can hire a pedalo and enjoy various water sports. There’s even a diving centre where you can take lessons or hire the necessary equipment for exploring the spectacular seabed of Menorca.
As well as spending a wonderful day on the beach, I want to let you in to a little secret of Cala Blanca, known mainly to the locals: the Cova de s’Aigua. This natural cave is over 2,500 metres long and has an amazing lake inside it. You can admire this little gem of nature on guided tours that run all year round.
Finally, hiking enthusiasts can enjoy one of the nicest sections of the Camí de Cavalls, an ancient path (‘horse trail’) running along the coast of Menorca. This section, less than 4km long, will take you to Cap d’Artrutx, where you’ll find the beautiful lighthouse of the same name, offering views of one of the most stunning sunsets on the island.

Where to eat in Cala Blanca, Menorca
In Cala Blanca you’ll find shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants to make your stay or visit as enjoyable as possible.
As a local, by now, I want to recommend one of my favourite tapas restaurants in Menorca, where you can try the island’s typical dishes: the “No Ni Ná”, a simple restaurant where you can savour homemade tapas and dishes at very affordable prices. The friendly service will also make you feel at home.
But if you fancy an excellent paella, the restaurant Paralia is just what you’re looking for. And make sure you leave room for dessert, you won’t regret it!
Alternatively, if you prefer a more sophisticated venue, I can recommend the restaurant Cas Safrà Gastrobar. The octopus and the sea bass carpaccio are a must.
Bars and nightlife in Cala Blanca, Menorca
Unlike its sister island of Ibiza, Menorca does not have a great amount of nightlife and it’s mainly concentrated in the island’s main cities, Mahón and Ciutadella.
However, in Cala Blanca you’ll find some bars offering delicious cocktails and where you can try Pomada, the refreshing drink typical of Menorca, made with gin and lemonade.
One of the gems of Cala Blanca, and the main reason why many decide to visit it, especially in the evening, is Hola Ola, an original chill-out bar where you can sip a drink as you listen to the excellent music and watch one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island. An unmissable venue during your stay in Menorca!
How to get to Cala Blanca
As I mentioned earlier, Cala Blanca is on the west coast of Menorca, just a few kilometres from Ciutadella, so it’s easy to get to by car and public transport.
How to get to Cala Blanca by car
A hire car is the best way of getting around Menorca. If you’ve just landed on the island, you should know that the airport is close to the city of Mahón, on the opposite side to Cala Blanca.
So to get there, you’ll need to take the Me-1 towards Ciutadella. Once you’re in the vicinity of the city, just keep driving for another 5 minutes, following the directions for Cala Blanca, there’s no way you can get lost!
How to get to Cala Blanca by bus
It’s also really easy to get to Cala Blanca from Ciutadella by bus, on the no.64.
From Mahón, meanwhile, you’ll first need to take the no.1 bus to Ciutadella and then take the no.64 from there. There is no direct public transport route from the airport to Cala Blanca, so first you’ll need to get to the centre of Mahón on the shuttle bus and then continue on the buses mentioned above.
What to do around Cala Blanca
If you’ve decided to make Cala Blanca your base for your stay in Menorca, you’ll be pleased to know that there are many things to see and do in the vicinity to make your trip even more enjoyable.
First of all, don’t miss a visit to Ciutadella, the second largest city in Menorca and its former capital. Succumb to the charms of the streets in its old town and its beautiful harbour. It’s only 5 minutes’ drive from Cala Blanca.

A 10-minute drive, meanwhile, will take you to the Cap d’Artrutx Lighthouse, one of the seven on Menorca, from where you can watch a stunning sunset with views of the island of Mallorca.
In the vicinity of Cala Blanca, you’ll also find other famous beaches such as Cala n’Bosch and Cala en Blanes, although my advice is to get up early and take a 30-minute drive to the wonderful beaches in the south of Menorca, such as Cala Turqueta or Macarella, as they are really worth the trip!

Although small, Cala Blanca has a lot to offer and is a very convenient destination for a day by the sea, watching the sun go down or as a base for exploring the island. Are you coming to see it too?
