Rock Imperium Festival (Cartagena, 26–29 June)

For rock fans and metalheads, the Rock Imperium Festival is an absolute must. The fourth edition of this festival has an amazing lineup, with bands such as Scorpions, The Cult, In Flames, Airbourne and Blind Guardian. The event takes place in El Batel Park, with four days of pure energy and passion for music.

Because Cartagena turns into the capital of rock with a lineup to get everyone moving.

San Javier International Jazz Festival (27 June – 24 July)

Since 1998, San Javier has become the epicentre of jazz over the summer. The 27th edition of the festival will feature legends such as Marcus Miller, Melody Gardot and Judith Hill, as well as emerging artists such as Emmet Cohen. The concerts will be held in several different locations, including Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor, for unforgettable nights by the sea.

La Mar de Músicas (Cartagena, 18–26 July)

Celebrating its 30th edition, La Mar de Músicas is now one of Spain’s most iconic summer festivals. This year, it’s paying homage to South Korea, with a programme combining African, Latin and European sounds. Renowned artists such as Salif Keita, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 and Orchestra Baobab will take to the stage in spaces such as the Auditorio Parque Torres and the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The lineup also includes such celebrated artists as Guitarricadelafuente, Silvia Pérez Cruz & Salvador Sobral, and Valeria Castro.

Festival Cante de las Minas (La Unión, 30 July – 9 August)

The Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas is one of the world’s most prestigious flamenco events. Held in the iconic Antiguo Mercado Público de La Unión, a former market known as the “Cathedral of Cante”, the festival holds competitions for flamenco singers, dancers, guitarists and other flamenco musicians, the ultimate accolade being the Lámpara Minera award (the Miner’s Lamp). This year, the top-quality lineup includes artists such as Antonio Rey, Sara Baras, Jesús Carmona, Mayte Martín and Ezequiel Benítez.

Because in La Unión, flamenco rises from the depths of the mining industry to become a universal art.

I Love Reggaeton (Murcia, 26 September)

Whilst held at the end of the summer, the I Love Reggaeton festival promises to finish off the season in true fashion. With artists such as Cali & El Dandee, Joey Montana and Trebol Clan, the Espacio Norte in Murcia will be vibrating with the beat for one unforgettable night.

Why go?
Because classic reggaeton deserves a party all of its own, and Murcia knows how to host it.

Summer screenings: movies under the stars

Outdoor cinemas are a tradition that’s kept alive in the Region of Murcia. Over July and August, municipalities such as Águilas, Santiago de la Ribera and Lo Pagán host free screenings for the whole family. The perfect opportunity to enjoy the seventh art under a starlit sky.

Because there’s nothing like watching a good film with the night breeze in the air and the sound of the sea in the background.

Local holidays: tradition and celebration in every corner

Summer in the Region of Murcia also means public holidays and fiestas.
