On 5 April, Volotea launched the “Volotea Music Fest”, an eclectic free festival in the heart of Nantes to celebrate the milestone of carrying 50 million passengers with the inhabitants of the company’s historic home town.
More than 1000 people attended the show at Le Stereolux to dance and sing along to the rhythms of acts including Ben L’Oncle Soul, Solar Project, VAPA, SAMIFATI and Michelle & Les Garçons.
We took this opportunity to touch base with Michelle & les Garçons, a new band from the Nantes region you’re guaranteed to like!
Hi, Michelle & les Garçons, thanks for taking up our invitation to the Volotea Music Fest! This is our chance to tell our readers and Volotea travellers all about you. Could you briefly introduce yourselves?
Louise : We’re an indie pop group, with a strong 80s influence, and we’ve been around for about a year and a half. There are three of us in the group. I’m Louise, the singer. Then there’s Axel on drums and Hugo on guitar, bass and keyboards. And we’re called Michelle & les Garçons because Michelle is my middle name. It was also my grandmother’s name.
What’s your latest news? A single? A tour?
Axel : We’re in the middle of a tour and our first EP was just released. So we’re sharing our first tracks with the world. The tour runs until the beginning of October and features around twenty shows all over France. The EP has 5 tracks. We produced these tracks in Nantes, with the local producers who worked with Zaho de Sagazan and Mademoiselle K. Our EP is 100% made in Nantes! Our first single is called “Bizarre”.
Speaking of local, you’re originally from Angers, but you live in Nantes. So you know the area well. What would you recommend to a first-time visitor to the region?
Axel : You definitely have to check out the Machines of the Isle of Nantes! For a drink and some live music, I’d recommend Lune Froide. There’s also the clubs Décadanse or Le Férailleur. Go for a bike ride on the banks of Loire or along the river Erdre.
Louise : In Anger, we’d recommend coffee at Exit Music For A Drink, a record store and café with a wide choice of vinyl LPs. Then take in a concert at Joker’s Pub, café-concert club in Angers with a great line up.
If tomorrow you could take a holiday to one of Volotea’s destinations, where would you go and why?
Louise : Corsica! I’ve never visited, but the weather looks amazing and everyone who’s been tells me about it with stars in their eyes!
Axel : I’m in love with Belgium in general, so Brussels, Liège and Bruges.

Thank you, Michelle & Les Garçons !
