Visit Metz from Strasbourg! You might find the idea surprising as Alsace and neighbouring Lorraine are keen rivals. That said, the two are in the same region and Metz is just an hour and a half from Strasbourg.<\/p>\n

Metz Pompidou Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n

Plenty of trains come into the station and the site has its own merits. Metz station is one of three major stations built when Alsace-Moselle was annexed by the German Empire. It is listed as a historic monument and its modern-style architecture combines contemporary elements with historic symbols.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth discovering the incredible architecture here before visiting the rest of the city. One of the best things to see is of course Metz Pompidou Centre<\/a>, the first outpost of the Paris institution. Modern art lovers directly off the train will easily spend two hours here.<\/p>\n

Le Magasin aux Vivres by Christophe Dufoss\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n

Foodies will want to reserve a table here. The Michelin-star chef and his wife run a splendid hotel, gourmet brasserie and gastronomic restaurant loved by connoisseurs in the wonderful setting of Le Magasin aux Vivres<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We took the time to stop off and try out the menu at this restaurant which features in the Michelin Guide. You will enjoy tasting dishes from the brasserie menu and testing the revamped Quiche Lorraine.<\/p>\n

For a more in-depth exploration, take the time to enjoy lunch or dinner in the gastronomic restaurant. The quality of the dishes, wine pairings and beautiful plate displays make this an exceptional experience. The chef likes to be involved with his customers and some even follow his Facebook<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

6500 m\u00b2 of stained glass<\/strong><\/p>\n

After culture and gastronomy comes a visit to the centre of Metz. You can wander through the old streets to the fascinating Metz Cathedral. At night, it is even more astonishing. You can also go inside and admire its 6500 m2<\/sup> of stained glass windows. Among the most modern are those by Marc Chagall<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll be as charmed as we were by the city and want to stay as long as you can. You can further extend the pleasures of discovery at a restaurant or beautiful terrace below the Cathedral\u2026before you make your way back to Strasbourg.<\/p>\n
