This celebration takes place in the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Li\u00e9bana, an important pilgrimage site and place of Christian worship.\u00a0<\/h5>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event occurs whenever the feast day of 16 April, the date that commemorates Santo Toribio de Li\u00e9bana finding the Cross of Christ, falls on a Sunday.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Li\u00e9bana Jubilee Year<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Li\u00e9bana Jubilee Year occurs whenever 16 April falls on a Sunday, which happens every 6, 5, 6 and 11 years in what\u2019s called a &#8220;quadrennial&#8221; cycle. During this period, the Holy See grants the privilege of plenary indulgence (the forgiveness of all sins) to pilgrims who visit the monastery and who comply with certain religious conditions, such as confession and Holy Communion and attending the \u201cPilgrim\u2019s Mass\u201d, held every day at 12 noon in the Monastery of Santo Toribio throughout the Li\u00e9bana Jubilee Year.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/shutterstock_1419877727.jpg?resize=640%2C427&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23706\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/shutterstock_1419877727.jpg?w=1000&amp;ssl=1 1000w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/shutterstock_1419877727.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/shutterstock_1419877727.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Monastery of Santo Toribio of Li\u00e9bana<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pilgrims and visitors go to the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Li\u00e9bana to worship the <em>Lignum Crucis<\/em>, the largest surviving fragment of the Cross on which Christ is believed to have been crucified. Aside from the religious aspect, the Li\u00e9bana Jubilee Year is also important in terms of culture and tourism, as it attracts people to Cantabria from all over the world, promoting the history, tradition and beauty of the region (as well as its food, of course!).\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"412\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/shutterstock_1969113256.jpg?resize=640%2C412&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23710\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/shutterstock_1969113256.jpg?w=1000&amp;ssl=1 1000w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/shutterstock_1969113256.jpg?resize=300%2C193&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/shutterstock_1969113256.jpg?resize=768%2C495&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Lignum Crucis<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This Jubilee Year ends on 15 April 2024<\/strong> but, as has been the case since the Middle Ages, every symbolic closure of the <em>Puerta Del Perd\u00f3n<\/em> (Door of Forgiveness) by no means signifies the closure of the doors of activity until the next Jubilee. Nor does it mean that Li\u00e9bana ceases to welcome visitors. On the contrary: adding this renewed value to its already numerous assets, it must constantly keep its doors open to all those wishing to discover this region and enjoy the legacy, heritage and values that make this part of Cantabria our \u201cJubilee Land\u201d, as it does not have to be a Jubilee Year for pilgrims to enjoy the experience of the Lebaniego Way and to visit the Monastery of Santo Toribio.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>All you need to know about the Lebaniego Way<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Lebaniego Way (<em>Camino Lebaniego<\/em>) is the pilgrimage route to the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Li\u00e9bana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"vive el CAMINO LEBANIEGO este A\u00d1O JUBILAR en CANTABRIA\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_d06XtCk8JE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this post we\u2019ll be giving you all the basics on this adventure so that you can decide how to go about it and how to divide up the stages. The Lebaniego Way is <strong>72 kilometres<\/strong> long, running from San Vicente de la Barquera to the Monastery of Santo Toribio. Possibly the most challenging of the three, due to its length and its slopes. As well as passing such noteworthy sites as the Church of Lebe\u00f1a, the <a href=\"https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/en\/es\/cities\/cantabria\/lookouts-cantabria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Santa Catalina<\/a> lookout and the Hermida Gorge with its stunning views of Picos de Europa National Park, you\u2019ll be walking through oak and beech trees, in woodland full of figures from Cantabrian mythology.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/mirador-santa-catalina-2.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17955\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/mirador-santa-catalina-2.jpg?resize=1024%2C682&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/mirador-santa-catalina-2.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/mirador-santa-catalina-2.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/mirador-santa-catalina-2.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Santa Catalina lookout<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>third stage <\/strong>takes you to the Monastery of Santo Toribio, where you can kiss the relic of the <em>Lignum Crucis<\/em>, and where your journey comes to an end. This is the shortest stage, covering just under 14km and almost all downhill or on the flat, except for the last section, which takes you from Potes up to the monastery. During this stage you\u2019ll pass the famous Habario de Pendes chestnut grove and you can savour some of the finest Li\u00e9bana cheeses there. Just like everyone\u2019s reasons for walking it, the stages of the Way are numerous and varied, but all are equally valid. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are said to be three types of pilgrim: those who make the journey with their feet, concentrating on the physical effort and the challenge to be overcome each day; those who make the pilgrimage with their eyes, delighting in the wonder of the nature, heritage and culture found along the way; and lastly, those who walk the Way with their heart, with a spiritual purpose, to find themselves, for a moment of reconciliation or to honour a promise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you feel like walking the Way this Li\u00e9bana Jubilee Year?
