They gave us a few tips on this wonderful destination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hi N\u00f8gen, thanks so much for agreeing to this interview!<\/strong> <strong>How would you describe yourselves to any Volare readers who aren\u2019t familiar with you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are Alex, Ane, Jokin, Markel and Olatz, a \u201ckuadrilla\u201d (a Basque word meaning a close group of friends) who got together to make music and share our dreams. N\u00f8gen is an indie-rock band formed in 2016, with three albums released and tours that have taken us to Japan and Korea. Our dreams have always gone beyond our possibilities and that\u2019s what keeps us going; we\u2019re ambitious and dedicated. We\u2019ve always done things our way and giving particular importance to those behind the project. We love to create, sing, tour, share, meet people and find our home on the road. That\u2019s what we\u2019ve been doing since 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You\u2019ve just released a new single, <em>Glastonbury<\/em>. We love it here at Volotea! Are you planning to release a new album soon or to go on another tour?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thanks, guys! It\u2019s true that we haven\u2019t released anything new for a couple of years now and we\u2019re delighted both with the song and with the public\u2019s response. It\u2019s a song about us, as a band and as individuals, about our dreams and our fears, and it\u2019s the song that we\u2019ve put most effort into creating and recording, so far. Playing it live and seeing people\u2019s reactions is a very moving experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-gestor-del-servicio wp-block-embed-gestor-del-servicio wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"N\u00f8gen - Glastonbury (Official Music Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1IAl2WQJoCA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>We\u2019re right in the middle of recording our fourth studio album. First of all, we\u2019ll release a second single shortly and perform just a few concerts this summer, 2023. Then the tour proper will be in 2024, following the release of the album at the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your songs are sung in Euskera, the language of the Basque Country. We can imagine the strong attachment you all feel to your region. Can you give us some tips on San Sebasti\u00e1n and the surrounding area? What, for example, would be your favourite outdoor activities, and where?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s right, we sing almost everything in Euskera, and it\u2019s also the language we use to communicate within the band and the main language we use on a daily basis. It\u2019s a beautiful language, but learning it from scratch must be a nightmare\u2026 <\/p>\n<p>So, what can we tell you about Donosti, as we call it, that you don\u2019t already know? Do we really want to reveal our secret places to everyone?! We\u2019d advise people not to just stick to the picturesque part of the city and to wander through the streets, interacting with the locals and experiencing the city respectfully. Apart from that, summer sunsets from the Sag\u00fces wall, climbing the hills of Ulia and Urgull, and walking in the rain in winter, finishing it all off with a good pintxo at any bar (you don\u2019t just get pintxos in the old part of town\u2026).<\/p>\n<p><strong>If we want to listen to live music or go dancing at night, where should we go?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t know anything about that\u2026 we\u2019re very quiet people, ha-ha! <\/p>\n<p>No, I\u2019m joking. If you\u2019re lucky enough to come here during the Jazzaldia jazz festival, there\u2019ll be few better things in the world then watching Jamie Cullum in concert (or whoever\u2019s performing) from the beach, as the sun sets behind the stage. We were lucky enough to play at the 2019 festival and it\u2019s at a whole different level\u2026 and it didn\u2019t stop raining all day (this can also happen, we are in the Basque Country, after all). Bob Dylan came another year and filled the entire beach; it\u2019s a real spectacle. <\/p>\n<p>In terms of bars and nightclubs, we\u2019d go to the area of Egia. Both Daba Daba and Bukowski are lively venues with some really interesting music\/artists.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Nogen_Credit_-Mario-Lezaun-1.jpg\" alt=\"Nogen San Sebastian\" class=\"wp-image-22585\" srcset=\"https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Nogen_Credit_-Mario-Lezaun-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Nogen_Credit_-Mario-Lezaun-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Which are the best beaches in and around San Sebasti\u00e1n?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a tricky question. These kind of questions are always followed by \u201cit depends\u201d. For example, Zurriola beach has the most activity, perfect for surfing or for playing volleyball, but it may not be the best for reading a book in peace and quiet. <\/p>\n<p>La Concha is a piece of heaven on earth; there won\u2019t be many urban beaches as pretty is this. Right in the centre of town, what more could you want?<\/p>\n<p>Ondarreta is the extension of La Concha in the area of Antiguo, near the Peine del Viento (wind comb) sculptures. It\u2019s likely to be a bit quieter than La Concha and is a good option for swimming to the island of Santa Clara. <\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no bad choice, basically\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>And if we\u2019re hungry, where can we book a table to savour local dishes? What\u2019s the typical food from your region?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ou\u2019d better come with a good appetite!! There are so many good quality options here when it comes to food. <\/p>\n<p>We have \u201ctxakolindegi\u201d (wineries &#8211; txakol\u00ed is a variety of wine, usually white, a speciality of the coastal region) and \u201csagardotegi\u201d (cider houses). Both options are very good and are generally very authentic places; try to avoid the tourist dishes. <\/p>\n<p>Another option is to bar-hop and try different pintxos, you can\u2019t go wrong. But without doubt, the favourite place is one selling a \u201cbokata\u201d. Grab a sandwich to go, and eat it at the marina. A clear winner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there a pretty little town that maybe not everyone knows about and which you could suggest we visit?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To us, pretty means authentic, and we\u2019re lucky to have a lot of that all over Gipuzkoa. Most of us are from the coast and love life by the sea, surfing and eating good fish in Hondarribia, Zarautz, Getaria, Zumaia\u2026 But Ane, our singer, is from Lazkao, in the mountainous region of Goierri, and you can certainly find some wonderful places there too. For example, the view of the imposing Mount Txindoki from Lazkaomendi is spectacular.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And, finally, if you could book your next holiday with Volotea, which destination would you like to visit and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the problem\u2026 there are five of us in the band and we all have different tastes! But I think we\u2019d all love to go to Copenhagen. At the end of the day, Denmark played a key role when we formed N\u00f8gen; in fact, the name of the band means \u201cnaked\u201d in Danish. We\u2019ve had three albums released now, we\u2019re working on the fourth, and they all have Danish names\u2026 so, Copenhagen could be a very nice meeting point.
