In fact, since 2019, Nice\u2019s cuisine has been listed as <strong>intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although it may share certain similarities with Italian cooking, they are both are rather different and should not be confused. Nice\u2019s culinary tradition has been passed down through many generations and promises to make your mealtimes a pleasure&#8230; although you might put on a little extra weight. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nice\u2019s specialities<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nice\u2019s cuisine is rich in specialities but they all have one thing in common: they\u2019re delicious! <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without attempting to encompass the many dishes you will find, let me give you a brief tour of the most frequently savoured delicacies by locals and tourists alike: <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">pissaladi\u00e8re<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00002.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"pissaladerie nice\" class=\"wp-image-21108\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00002.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00002.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00002.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00002.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A culinary speciality made with bread dough, saut\u00e9ed onions, olive oil and anchovies. Yes, we love to cook with anchovies in Nice!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pissaladi\u00e8re is a bit like a slice of pizza, or portion of quiche. Often served with the aperitif or as a starter and great for sharing with friends. It\u2019s also a good option for a quick lunch on the go. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, it is not a dish in its own right. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re feeling peckish and want something savoury, you should try it, especially since it\u2019s not hard to find: most boulangeries sell it. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">pan bagnat<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00001.jpg?resize=640%2C853&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"pan bagnat niza\" class=\"wp-image-21112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00001.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00001.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00001.jpg?w=960&amp;ssl=1 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you fancy a sandwich while you\u2019re in Nice, you definitely need to try a Pan Bagnat. This sandwich is made with bread, olive oil (pan bagnat means \u201cbathed bread\u201d), vegetables, tuna, hard-boiled egg and anchovies. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I want a quick bite to eat out and about, it\u2019s clearly my go-to sandwich. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What\u2019s more, I strongly advise you to enjoy one on the beach by the Mediterranean. You\u2019ll see, it tastes even better!<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">socca<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_2131184083-1.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"socca\" class=\"wp-image-21160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_2131184083-1.jpg?resize=1024%2C682&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_2131184083-1.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_2131184083-1.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_2131184083-1.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ideal for a quick bite while strolling around Nice\u2019s old town. This large, thin, chickpea-based wafer is baked in an oven (preferably wood-fired) and eaten in small portions with your hands and without needing to feel hungry. I love it!<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Daube Ni\u00e7oise (served with gnocchi or ravioli)<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Braised beef simmered in red wine and served usually with potato gnocchi or ravioli. Considered Nice\u2019s most emblematic hot dish. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Petits Farcis Ni\u00e7ois (stuffed vegetables)<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the name suggests, these are Mediterranean vegetables (tomatoes, courgettes, peppers, aubergines, and mainly onions) filled with stuffing. Although it could be a main course, in Nice it is often served as a starter. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tourte de Blettes (Swiss Chard Tart)<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00003.jpg?resize=640%2C853&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"tourte de blettes nice\" class=\"wp-image-21116\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00003.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00003.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image00003.jpg?w=960&amp;ssl=1 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both sweet and savoury versions are available. While both are very tasty, I definitely prefer a sweet chard pie. Actually, it\u2019s one of my favourite desserts. The cooked chards are mixed with pine nuts and raisins.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you don\u2019t want to make one yourself, you can easily find both sweet and savoury versions in artisanal bakeries. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La salade ni\u00e7oise<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_2177876915.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"salade nicoise\" class=\"wp-image-21165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_2177876915.jpg?resize=1024%2C682&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_2177876915.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_2177876915.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_2177876915.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This world famous salad is widely available on restaurant menus both in France and abroad. However, the people of Nice will usually explain that outside the region, they rarely resemble a true Ni\u00e7oise salad. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The list of ingredients is very specific and you can\u2019t make mistakes! For a good Ni\u00e7oise salad, you need tomatoes, green peppers, garlic, spring onions, broad beans, celery, hard-boiled eggs, anchovy fillets, tuna, Ni\u00e7oise black olives, all drizzled with olive oil. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you see potatoes or, worse, green beans, don\u2019t bother!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The <em>Cuisine Nissarde<\/em>  label<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several years ago, the city of Nice launched the \u201cCuisine Nissarde\u201d label. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This distinction is awarded to the region\u2019s restaurants with recognised respect for the traditions of Nice cuisine. You don\u2019t need to go to a fancy restaurant to try this gastronomy, which is above all popular and homely. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some of my tips and useful addresses: <\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pick up a portion of socca at <strong>Socca Tram<\/strong>, <strong>Socca du Cours<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chezpipo.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chez Pipo<\/a> or at <strong>Roi de la Socca<\/strong> near the harbour.<\/li>\n<li>Treat yourself to a hearty Daube at<strong> Chez Acchiardo<\/strong> or <a href=\"http:\/\/chezcane.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Chez Can\u00e9<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Try the sweet Swiss chard pie from the \u201c<strong>Au bon Pain<\/strong>\u201d boulangerie in Rue Saint Philippe<\/li>\n<li>Buy your ravioli or gnocchi at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maison-barale.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maison Barale<\/a>, an Old Nice institution. <\/li>\n<li> Don\u2019t hesitate to ask the locals where they buy their pan bagnat when they want a quick lunch. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Above all, don\u2019t leave Nice without trying its gastronomy &#8211; it would be a real shame!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nice is world-famous for its Bay of Angels, colourful facades, old town, sunshine, palm trees and pebble beaches.
