Strasbourg, the chocolate capital? The phrase may make you smile, but there\u2019s a strong link between the Alsace region and chocolate. During your stay in the heart of the European capital, you may be surprised by the number of chocolatiers in the city\u2019s streets; you should also know that there\u2019s a chocolate museum on the outskirts of Strasbourg. Let us tell you more!<\/p>\n

Since I love to share things I\u2019ve found out with you, I\u2019ll start by reminding you that Alsace is the largest exporter of chocolate in France. Companies including Mars, Suchard, Schaal<\/a>\u00a0are well-known by the public. Boosted by the presence of many artisan chocolatiers, Alsace is also home to a “Chocolate Route<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

While in Strasbourg, you\u2019ll obviously want to begin by visiting the chocolatiers in the city centre. The enthusiasm and expertise of Christian Meyer make a visit to Chez Christian<\/i> <\/a>\u00a0unmissable – or, more precisely, a visit to one of the two shops which bear his name.<\/p>\n

We recommend the shop on rue Merci\u00e8re and its \u2018chocolate room\u2019. Here, in a cosy, almost British atmosphere, you\u2019ll enjoy homemade p\u00e2tisseries<\/i>, perhaps even a Torche aux Marrons<\/i> (chestnut cream meringue) and an exceptionally good hot chocolate. Much like with wine, you\u2019ll learn that the region and the origins of chocolate change its flavours and taste.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll need to leave Strasbourg to visit the Chocolate Museum<\/a>\u00a0in Geispolsheim. This museum is full of wonderful surprises. Young and old alike will love this museum, where visitors would like to dip their fingers into its exhibits!<\/p>\n

Following in the footsteps of the Marquise de S\u00e9vign\u00e9, the history of chocolate is revealed with a film, animated displays, interactive screens and workshops. You\u2019ll be an expert when it comes to ganache and pralines. Between tasting sessions and revelations from the Head Chocolatier, you\u2019ll find this museum good enough to eat.<\/p>\n
