But above all, Montpellier is a city where the sun shines 300 days a year! How fantastic is that? This article takes a look at my favourite beaches around Montpellier. Perfect spots for sunbathing in total peace and quiet, sampling delicious local dishes or sipping an aperitif with your toes in the sand in one of the delightful beach restaurants we call \u201c<em>paillotes<\/em>.\u201d<\/h5>\n<p>Looking for some tips for your next holiday? One side boasts a lively atmosphere with comfortable loungers and restaurants. The other side, which is completely deserted, is ideal for those seeking peace and seclusion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I get there and where should I park?<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>By car: Around 25 minutes from Montpellier, follow signs for Palavas-Les-Flots via the Pr\u00e8s d&#8217;Ar\u00e8nes roundabout. When you reach the entrance to Palavas, turn right. You&#8217;ll find the Pr\u00e9vost car park at the very end of the road. Parking costs \u20ac6 from 8am to 6pm and \u20ac3 from 6pm to 8pm from mid-April to mid-September, and it\u2019s free the rest of the year. You can get directly onto the beach from the car park. For a bit of extra peace and quiet, a small train can drop you off several stops further along this 10 km beach. If you fancy a bit of exercise, continue by bike or on foot!\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Public transport: Find all the information on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montpellier-france.com\/traveller-information\/access-and-transportation\/how-to-get-around-in-montpellier\/go-to-the-beach-without-a-car\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">city\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What services are provided there? <\/h3>\n<p>There are two private beaches close to the car park (details in the paragraph below), as well as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jetski-palavas.com\/-English-.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">water sports centre<\/a> featuring range of water sports including jet skiing and towed buoys.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where can I get something to eat? You can choose to eat at the tables in the restaurant or on a deck chair.<\/p>\n<p>The best time to enjoy this magical place is at the end of the day when the sun goes down. Just picture yourself with your feet in the sand, sipping a drink and savouring a delicious meal.<\/p>\n<p>Prices:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Starters: from \u20ac14<\/li>\n<li>Main courses: from \u20ac28<\/li>\n<li>Loungers: from \u20ac22<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of my personal favourites is the slipper lobster! The cocktails are excellent too. This delightful spot is ideal for those who want to get away from it all while enjoying delicious food and cocktails.<\/p>\n<p>The menu was put together by the Pourcel brothers, well-known Michelin-starred chefs with main courses from \u20ac22. There are a few places where you can hire a sun lounger, but the beach is big enough to lay your own towels and have a picnic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0How do I get there and where should I park?\u00a0<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>By car: Just follow the signs to Palavas, either via Carnon or via Les Ar\u00e8nes, for about 20 minutes. There are a number of car parks in the town and by the beach, with hourly parking charges at the pay and display machines. Located to the west of Palavas, just before the Pr\u00e9vost car park and before you reach Villeneuve-L\u00e8s-Maguelone, this beach bar is not to be missed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Meals are simple and delicious especially the grilled fish platter!\u00a0Meals start from \u20ac20 and loungers are available from \u20ac15. There&#8217;s only one place where you can hire beach mats, and the rest of the beach is completely deserted. Ideal for those in search of the peace and tranquillity of nature in its purest form.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I get there and where should I park? <\/h3>\n<p>Far removed from the busy urban beaches, l&#8217;Espiguette is just 40 minutes from Montpellier. Head towards La Grande Motte and Le Grau du Roi and you&#8217;ll find this untamed beach. Parking is easy: choose the free car park is next to Espiguette campsite or go to Parking des Baronnets, on the World Heritage Site, which charges \u20ac7.\u00a0 The paid car park is closer to the sea than the free car park, which is 10 minutes away on foot.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What services are provided there? <\/h3>\n<p>Horse riding is available at several ranches on the Route de l\u2019Espiguette. Don\u2019t hesitate to stop there. The <em>paillote<\/em> next to the free car park had to close down so do bring a good picnic with you since there\u2019s nowhere to buy snacks.<\/p>\n<p>There are water sports activities available at the pay car park, along with a <em>paillote<\/em> so you won\u2019t go hungry. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where can I eat without lugging around a 5 kg cool box?<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Oyat Beach<\/h4>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"635\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/oyat-635x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27306\" srcset=\"https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/oyat-635x1024.jpg 635w, https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/oyat-186x300.jpg 186w, https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/oyat-768x1238.jpg 768w, https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/oyat-953x1536.jpg 953w, https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/oyat.jpg 1170w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Located near the Baronnets pay car park, this charming little <a href=\"http:\/\/oyat-plage.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">private beach<\/a> will win you over with its authentic Camargue style, nestled among the dunes and far from the hustle and bustle.<\/p>\n<p>Try the fresh salads, tapas, sandwiches and grilled meats, all at very reasonable prices. For just \u20ac15, you can rent a lounger and sunshade. You can also hire a paddle board for \u20ac10 an hour, perfect for exploring the surrounding waters.<\/p>\n<p>The beach organises dance evenings throughout the summer, with details available on their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/p\/Loyat-plage-100045061855344\/?locale=fr_FR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Facebook<\/a> page. The car park is free. This beach is just as large as the others but more popular. If you prefer seeing fewer people, come out of season when it\u2019s perfect!\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What services are provided there? <\/h3>\n<p>In the interests of preserving the coastline, there are fewer and fewer on-site services.\u00a0However, you can enjoy water sports at La Grande Motte, a seaside resort just a few minutes&#8217; drive from Le Grand Travers. And if you have a sweet tooth, there are the famous \u201c<em>chouchous beignets<\/em>\u201d (doughnuts) which are sold all day long on the beach.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where\u2019s the best place to eat at this beautiful spot?\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>For several years, this beach was home to a number of delightful <em>paillottes<\/em> where you could enjoy a drink or a meal with your toes in the sand. Unfortunately, these beach shacks had to be moved a few kilometres away. <\/p>\n<p>Only two of them have survived to this day: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.effetmer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">L\u2019Effet Mer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/pampaplage.fr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">La Pampa Plage.<\/a> The rest of the beach is now reserved for relaxing and picnicking.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"581\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/effet-mer-581x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/effet-mer-581x1024.jpg 581w, https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/effet-mer-170x300.jpg 170w, https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/effet-mer-768x1354.jpg 768w, https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/effet-mer-872x1536.jpg 872w, https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/effet-mer-1162x2048.jpg 1162w, https:\/\/volare.volotea.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/effet-mer.jpg 1170w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 581px) 100vw, 581px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Loungers at l\u2019Effet Mer at the end of Grand Travers<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The private beaches of <a href=\"https:\/\/lavoilebleue.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Voile Bleue<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lapaillotebambou.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paillotte Bambou<\/a> have moved to La Grande Motte, just a few minutes from Le Grand Travers, where you can relax on a beach mat, enjoy a refreshing aperitif and enjoy a delicious meal.<\/p>\n<p>There are many more beaches to choose from around Montpellier, but these are my personal recommendations.
